teresa Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 right this leak is really starting to p--- me off sealed windows ,checked aircon pipe like kev suggested( ffoc member) now im gonna try to reseal the bulkhead seam. any suggestions how to do this and whats best to use to seal it? thanks teresa xx Quote
anadin Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 hi , are you sealing from outside the bulkhead or inside/dash out, have you checked for missing grommets ? Quote
teresa Posted September 20, 2006 Author Report Posted September 20, 2006 sealing from outside if u think im takin dash out u can think again lol. no grommets are missing the water is seeping down from bonnet catch and also the drivers side of centre console. windows have been completely resealed. turned car around last night definately from front of car there was also a lot of water sitting on bulkhead cover and yes drains are unblocked Quote
anadin Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 chicken :D , clear silicone sealer should do it , you bodger you  :P :19: Quote
Vanbursta Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 You can buy proper brush on mastic seam sealer from any good motor factor, silicone sealer is not good because the heat and exposure to the elements will make it inefective (also you can't paint over silicone sealer!). If the water is coming in down the bonnet handle, can I suggest you try taping over the sunroof edges with masking tape, is it could be leaking from here because the drain tube goes down the drivers door pillar and can rub through on the wiring / metal there. Put a bucket of water over the roof before taping to check, then tape and do the same again. Quote
teresa Posted September 20, 2006 Author Report Posted September 20, 2006 wow a sunroof wish i was that lucky :) i dont have one but ive sealed the bulkhead from outside wiper mechanisim is in me car along with everything else if this dont work im afraid it will be dash out thats my last resort B) Quote
cos 4x4 Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 right you can try this for size on the outside of the galaxy where the rubber roof strips come down to the bottom of the windscreen there are a pair of plastic cover surrounds that go over the rubber and under the wiper armthese are held in place by a pair of plastic clips that are attached into the windscreen pillar if you pull these out you will find water can piss in through them so pull them out and use lots of clear silicone( dont listen to the above comment about the stuff i use it everyday in work and i seal consevatory roofs with it) anyway back to the point seal these up good and proper and refit the clips and that should cure your problem as this was where mine was leaking thriugh for ages and mine is know curedhoope this helps Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 might be totaly wrong here but hadl same type of problem twice on our focus it was down to the pollen filter not been fited right not level all the best and hope you get it sorted j Quote
Vanbursta Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Charming ( dont listen to the above comment about the stuff i use it everyday in work and i seal consevatory roofs with it) Rubbish, if exposed to UV radiation (eg sunlight) silicone sealer degrades rapidly, that coupled with the heat from the engine compartment will kill it very effectively. Silicone sealer should not be used to seal any kind of roof, the proper stuff for the job is outdoor frame sealant, which STILL degrades over time but will last a lot longer and is unaffected by UV. Proper mastic seal on the other hand does NOT suffer from degradation over time and remains flexible to allow for movement in the joint. I suppose you could use silicone if you didn't want to keep the car and don't mind passing the problem onto the new owner. You still wouldn't be able to paint it though. Quote
teresa Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 well i bought a seam sealer from our local motor factors sealed everything i could see but i have noticed between thw window screen and frame there is a hole on passenger side it is filled with like a plasticy foam on drivers side there isnt as much could it get in there as this seems to lead down a frame Quote
anadin Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 can you post a photo teresa ? Quote
teresa Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 ok done it not too good but you might be able to see this is passenger side of window this is drivers side could it be leaking down here Quote
anadin Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 the filling could be someone elses bodge, hard to say, hmmm i'd have had dismantled the whole front end and dash by now  , have you discounted the rear washer pipe, by colouring the water with somthing ? or suggest you take it to a windscreen fitter ask their free advice, short skirt should do it  Quote
teresa Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 its drivers side so it aint washer pipe and been to window place all they can say is its not window screen leak Quote
anadin Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 try pouring jug of water into that hole, see where it goes ? Quote
cos 4x4 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 the top pic is what i,m on about were that plastic lug goes into the body is the hole you should seal up then push it back in as this is a direct hole through the bulk head and into the cabin i should imagine theres one on the drivers side as well as for matey boys above comments about silicone the stuff i use is the proper deal used by window companys all over the country so stop talking bollocks pall Quote
raymac Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Ok people that's enough of the bickering and bad language let's leave it at that we are here to help each other out and that sort of back biting and insulting behaviour helps no one :D and if it carries on i'll get me dad  :D Quote

teresa Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 yeah i sealed them and every other hole i found lol Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 t i love yr avatar  Quote
